Who Should Get An Eye Exam?

The short answer is ....

everyone!  Obviously, if you can’t see as well as you’d like, then you need an eye exam to see if you need glasses or contact lenses. But, what if you can see perfectly fine? Do you still need to get your eyes checked? If you want to ensure that the good vision you currently enjoy stays with you for a long time, then, the answer is "YES" as

well!

For Kids:

We recommend children to have their first eye exam at 6 months of age to check for alignment and to ensure everything is developing normally.  By the time a child is 3 years old, vision should be assessed annually to make sure the eyes are equal.  Some "lazy eyes" can be obvious as one or both may be turned (strabismus).  However, most lazy eyes present as normal with no eye-turn (amblyopia).  And since these children have lived with this their whole lives, they may not complain as they may think that this is normal.  Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to strengthen a lazy eye later in life.  Hence early detection is critical.  Kids should get their eye exams early and regularly.

For Adults and Seniors:

Studies have shown that 20/20 vision, although it’s good to have, is not a proper indicator of good eye health. Many eye diseases present with absolutely no symptoms at all, and may stay that way, unnoticed, for many years. Unfortunately, by the time even mild changes are detected,  it may be too late to cure.  A lot of treatment options are simply to slow down advancements.  They are not able to reverse what is already lost.  A regular assessment means early detection, leading to prevention of permanent problems.
