Patients present for a variety of reasons. Whether you are coming in for a routine check up or if you have specific concerns (eg. vision problems, eye infection, family history of certain ocular conditions, etc.), it is important for the doctor to understand your situation. The doctor will illicit pertinent information, set goals for the exam, hypothesize outcomes, perform tests, and communicate findings and recommendations to you. We will try to get to know you personally!
In general, a comprehensive ocular assessment involves testing your baseline vision, determining your prescription, measuring your binocular status, and checking the health of your eyes. Of course, if you have a specific concern, the doctor would go in-depth and formulate tests catered towards that aspect.
We will discuss the results of the examination with you. If you need glasses, a spectacle prescription will be given to you. Perhaps it is advisable for one of our sub-specialty divisions to take over management. Perhaps we recommend referring you externally, either to a surgeon/specialist or for blood work. Or maybe your eyes are perfect and we simply advise seeing you again on your next visit. No matter what the outcome is, we will provide you our recommendations on treatment & management plans along with all necessary information so that you can make an informed decision for yourself.
